French

A Vision for French

Languages are for life.

At The Spires Federation, languages are seen as a unique part of all our pupils’ education as languages are part of the cultural richness of our local community and the wider world in which we live and work. Learning languages contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfilment. Our children learn to appreciate different countries, cultures, communities and people through an inspiring, engaging and well sequenced learning experience. It is our intention that all pupils can develop the understanding and communication skills required to speak, read and write in another language in order to pursue possible employment opportunities or simply enjoy leisure and cultural activities anywhere in the world.

Our vision is to promote and unlock cultural awareness and develop our young people into global citizens of the 21st century.

By studying French, children are able to communicate in modern foreign language, allowing them to demonstrate our key values of Success, Happiness, Inspiration, Nurture and Everyone.  Our Golden Thread of Aspiration runs clearly through our cohesive, progressive French curriculum.

We believe that French gives everyone who studies it an exciting opportunity to create a better future for subsequent generations.

To quote the mediaeval English philosopher Roger Bacon:

“Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom.”
