Friends of Dunston School (FODS)

Who are we? 

Friends of Dunston St Peters School is a registered charity. The group currently consists of parents who work alongside the school, we organise and run fundraising events for the school community. All funds are spent either directly or indirectly on the children adding to their experience at school. 

What is our aim?

Our inspiration being the “children” only. Our sole aim is to aid the school with additional funds for the “extra” things that government funding does not provide for. From improving sporting facilities to extending the range and access pupils have to excellent reading material.

Where does the money raised go?

In recent years we have bought, playground equipment, reading books, sports equipment, as well as funding towards visiting school pantomime and contributing to the cost of school trips. We have also helped with the purchase and installation of the projector and audio equipment for school hall, 15 new IPADS, Stylus pens and protective cases, interactive white boards for every class and leavers gifts as a thank you for every student.  

What type of events/activities do we do? 

In the past couple of years, we have organised the following events:

  • School Disco
  • Christmas Fair with refreshments, raffle, sweet and cakes stalls as well as games
  • Summer Fair after sports day with refreshments, raffle, sweet and cakes stalls as well as games
  • Easter egg hunt and sponsored walk
  • Bingo nights
  • Magic show
  • Film night
  • New Year’s Eve party

In addition to supporting our organised events we have non-uniform days for children to bring raffle prizes/donations for our events throughout the year, also we have been selected to be community champion in Metheringham Co op from Sunday 8th March- Saturday 6th June 2020.

Interested in joining us? When and where do we meet? 

Being part of the committee is not a huge commitment and it is very rewarding as well as a great way to meet other parents and have fun being involved in our fundraising events.

We usually meet once a month, during the evening at Red Lion public house in Dunston. We would welcome new members to our friendly team. You may only wish to be involved with one event throughout the year or just come along to find out what is coming up. We welcome any ideas you may have for fundraising events or activities and suggestions on ways to spend money raised. Attending meetings isn't compulsory; you may wish to be a ‘friend of the friends’ and help out at events as and when you can. If you are interested in joining please get in touch and we will keep you up to date on upcoming events by email or Facebook.
